Complete guide on GPA calculation, ranking logic, and result access

How is GPA calculated?

GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using ONLY your current semester subjects. Previous semesters and CGPA are NOT used in this calculation.

Formula:
GPA = (ฮฃ (Credits ร— Grade Points)) รท (ฮฃ Credits)
Grade Grade Point
O 10
A+ 9
A 8
B+ 7
B 6
C 5
U / UA / WH / SA 0

What type of ranking is used?

This portal uses DENSE RANKING, which is the standard academic ranking method widely used in universities.

Dense Ranking Rules:
  • Students with the Same GPA get the Same Rank.
  • The next rank increases by 1 only (no ranks are skipped).

Why total students = 60 but last rank = 56?

This happens due to GPA clashes in dense ranking. If multiple students have the same GPA, the total number of distinct ranks reduces.

Example Scenario:
Total students: 60. If 5 students share the exact same GPA, they all share 1 rank. This reduces the total count of ranks by 4. Thus, the last rank becomes 56, not 60.
GPA No. of Students Rank
9.21 1 1
9.05 2 (Tie) 2
8.90 5 (Tie) 3
8.75 1 4
Note: Rank reduction is expected and correct. It does NOT mean students are missing from the list.

What rankings will I see?

  • College Rank: Compared with all students in the institution.
  • Year Rank: Compared with all students in your academic year.
  • Department Rank: Compared with students in your department.
  • Class Rank: Compared with students in your specific class/year.
These ranks are independent. You might be College Rank 10 but Class Rank 1.

Is it fair to compare 1st year and 4th year students?

Yes, it is completely fair because CGPA is NOT used. Only the current semester GPA is compared. A 9.0 GPA in the 1st semester is mathematically equivalent to a 9.0 GPA in the 8th semester for the purpose of "Session Toppers".
